The Sons of Ben are just as passionate about giving back to the community as we are in supporting the Philadelphia Union. We are proud to be part of the Chester community, and to support organizations and mutual aid groups that serve the Delaware Valley.

From the day we began Help Kick Hunger in 2011, to hosting our first ever mutual aid group, Cars For Philly in 2022, serving our community has been a core part of our identity for 15 years. I recognize that historically, charity and philanthropy have been used as Band-Aids for structural and systemic issues that are root causes of the problems which many nonprofits claim to target and in many occasions, some organizations have caused direct harm. I also recognize that we, as an independent supporters group, have a unique position and responsibility to make a real material impact in our community.

When the Covid-19 Pandemic hit, I was absolutely floored by the incredible tenacity and support of whole neighborhoods and communities who came together to help their neighbors in any way possible. Community fridges, free food distribution, PPE distribution, and even laundry services and plumbing, I watched the concept of Mutual Aid take the city (and country) by storm. It was beautiful to see neighbors coming together to take care of neighbors. This inspired me to take SoB Philanthropy in a slightly new direction. I’m committed to using my platform to bring awareness and build fundraising opportunities for hyperlocal organizations and community led groups who focus on direct, critical aid and services for our neighbors in our most vulnerable communities across the Delaware Valley.

Please join us or support our team with a donation.

Research is hope for kids with cancer, but donations to find cures have been down since 2020. Your gift will give kids hope, supporting the largest charitable funder of childhood cancer research grants.

Clean Sheets For Clean Sheets

We are teaming up with our Boys in Blue with a new charitable event!
The premise behind "Clean Sheets for Clean Sheets" is simple - for every clean sheet that our keepers put up this season, we pledge a minimum of $5. All funds will be pooled, and split between orgs supporting the homeless. To honor our keepers, we chose organizations close to their homes.
- Bread Basket Ministries: a nonprofit organization providing housing, education, and other assistance to children in Jamaica
- Red Cross International Disaster Relief: the Red Cross provides emergency housing and other services throughout the world, including South America.
- Valley Youth House: Valley Youth House operates shelters and provides counseling and other services for abused and neglected children throughout the state of Pennsylvania.

'Stache Bash

The ‘Stache Bash is our first fundraiser of the season, held at our home opener tailgate. Through ticket sales and raffles, we build on the excitement of the season home opener to raise money for a great cause.

This event supports the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania’s Unified Soccer program, which gives an opportunity for athletes without intellectual disabilities to play on a soccer team with athletes with intellectual disabilities. This is a great program that leads to lasting friendships both on and off the field for participants, and helps Special Olympics athletes get more involved in their community.

Pints Fur Pets

Pints Fur Pets is an all-ages event that benefits two local animal shelters, ACCT Philadelphia and the Providence Animal Center in Media, PA. Philadelphia Union players serve as guest bartenders for the event, where we also have food and drink specials, raffles, door prizes, and more!

Help Kick Hunger

Help Kick Hunger (HKH) is our largest fundraising event of the year. Through a silent auction, raffles, ticket sales, and a 50/50 drawing, we are able to raise thousands of dollars and hundreds of pounds of food each year to support the Bernardine Center and their critically-needed programs. In past years, we’ve auctioned off signed Philadelphia Union gear, as well as cool memorabilia from Talen Energy Stadium.

Sons of Ben Cornhole Tournament

The Sons of Ben are pleased to announce a new philanthropic event for the summer of 2018: a cornhole tournament to benefit the William Trippley Youth Development Foundation! The tournament will be held over several tailgates, with both a team and a singles division. Winners will split the pot with the WTYDF.

St. Baldrick's Foundation

For the past 5+ years, Team SoB, led by captains Jeffrey and Benjamin Mitchell, has participated in the St. Baldrick’s Foundation fundraiser to support childhood cancer research. Team members work hard to solicit donations for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, and commit to shaving their heads in return. The team has raised over $27,000 so far and is always open to new participants!

Yards Brewing Sons of Ben Beer

Yards Brewing Company created a special beer in honor of Sons of Ben. In honor of the launch of the Rowdy Pale Ale, Yards gave the Sons of Ben $1,000 to donate to the charity of our choosing. Our members voted to direct the donation to the William Trippley Youth Development Foundation, an organization that works with at-risk youth in Chester, providing access to after-school education programs, soccer training and camps, scholarships, and more.
