Tailgate Frequently Asked Questions
What takes place at the SoB Tailgate?
On game days, SoB holds an organized tailgate for all members, fans, and away supporters to
enjoy before the game. We have unlimited food and drinks available with the purchase of a ticket.
During the tailgate, we have our own DJ and an assortment of tailgate games available for adults and
kids. Everyone is allowed to bring their own food, drinks, chairs, tables, canopies, and games to our
tailgates.
What is all included in a SoB Tailgate Ticket?
Purchase of a ticket entitles you to unlimited food and non-alcoholic drinks. You do not need to
pay for a ticket to hang out in our lot and enjoy the atmosphere with friends, families, and other fans.
Besides food & drinks, a portion of our ticket prices do go towards maintenance and care of the
equipment we utilize for our tailgates to run. For example, two years ago we invested in a storage freezer
that allows us to buy ice in bulk, keeping ice frozen for the duration of the tailgate and allowing us to
store excess for future events like away trips and Bridge Brigade tailgates. This also allowed us to keep
better storage of any surplus food we bought that was not prepared. Last year, we had maintenance
work done on our beer fridges. Additional tailgate costs include items such as CO2 canisters, plates &
silverware, cups, cleaning supplies, foldable tables, & canopies.
Do children have to buy a ticket?
Since tickets include the price of food and non-alcoholic drinks, we ask everyone to use their
best judgment on the expectation of buying tickets for children. Children 10 & under do not need to
purchase tickets. If kids plan on eating and drinking, we ask that a tailgate ticket be purchased to help
cover the costs of those items.
Why are there tiered prices for Tickets?
Preparing for tailgates is about a 10-day procedure leading up to the event. We have to work
with our sponsors and vendors throughout this time and organize pick-ups for food and beverages. This
typically requires orders needing to be in sooner, rather than later. We encourage everyone to buy their
tickets as soon as possible to provide a better headcount for us to prepare our shopping to ensure we
do not run out of any food, drink, or supplies during the tailgate.
Why are some tailgate tickets higher than others?
1. Member discount
a. Paid SoB Members for the current year are given a discount on SoB tailgates tickets
2. Special Events
a. Throughout the season we hold a few special event tailgates that sometimes incur
additional costs for food and drinks that fall outside of our typical budget. We also hold
charity events during some tailgates where a portion of the tickets costs will go towards
the chosen charity. These special event tailgates typically fall in line with traditional SoB
charity events and Union Theme Nights.
What are the benefits to volunteering for a Tailgate?
Volunteering to work one of the tailgates allows you a free ticket to our tailgate. Dedicating an hour-
hour and a half of your time at our tailgates also provides you a chance to meet new people and get to
know more of your fellow members and the SoB Board.
Volunteering for multiple tailgates throughout the season allows you to earn Volunteer Perks
through our Volunteer Incentive Program. In years past we’ve rewarded our volunteers who
participated a certain amount of times with Volunteer event parties, game day experiences (such as the
Tunnel Club), and exclusive SoB merch.
It’s also worth mentioning, that our tailgates are completely volunteer organized and run. We cannot
have these tailgates run at all without the help of our volunteers. This will sometimes impact if and
when we have tailgates (non-MLS and mid-week matches) and how many tickets we can sell to ensure
we have enough volunteers that can run this event.
